Blogging habits of Indians

These are reports from MSN India's windows live report on blogging habits of Indians.


  • 42% of blogs are for event updates while 49% for entertainment.

  • Growth is there: 14% of Indian netizens are involved in active blogging.

  • Surprise: Only 40% of Indian netizens are aware of blogging.

  • Male domination: 76% of bloggers in India are males.

  • 50% of blog readers are interested in blogs by business leaders next comes politicians.

  • 45% believe in blog content as much as traditional media.

  • 54% of bloggers are aged between 25-34 years.

  • 60% of bloggers are using their blogs to express passionate views.

  • 90% of bloggers spend up 5 hours a week in reading or updating blogs.

Google's domination over Indian webspace

Compared to the world, Google's domination is complete over Indian web space. In the Alexa rankings, Out of the top four, three sites are from Google network. Though Yahoo is in the first place, Orkut, Google India and Google are occupied second, third and fourth places respectively.Orkut became the "My Space of India". Every Indian teenager hooked to Orkut for networking. 90% of Indian search market is occupied by Google and its Indian arm.

Other Google Sites like Blogger (11 th place), and Youtube (13 th place) are gradually gaining ground among the Indian netizens.
If this trend continues, In 2007, Google will have five sites in the top 10 Indian websites list.

Indian Government is to block Dangerous blogs


Indian Government is planning to block dangerous (Threat to National Security) websites and Blogs at entry point.

As per Economic Times, India,s No.1 Business daily, The technology to be put in place at the eight landing stations — which bring international bandwidth into the country — will be capable of blocking websites at a sub-domain level, thus saving internet service providers (ISPs) from a sweeping shutdown.

The issue of blocking individual websites had come into prominence following the Mumbai blasts in July, when DoT had directed ISPs to ban 18 blogs and websites.
